I saw the article rearding Red Tail Piolts that graduated from Virginia State and would like to find more information about these pilots. I also happen to have an Uncle named Melvin Jackson, that was in the military and later worked at Virginia State. Any suggestions where to begin research of more information about these pilots.

Thank you for commenting and reading the blog! We apologize for the length of time it took for us to reply. We have books on the Tuskegee Airmen that would be a preliminary jumping-off point. They can be found using our online catalog at http://library.vsu.edu/

Mr. Lucious Edwards, the University Archivist, has done some work compiling information on Tuskegee Airmen who were affiliated with VSU as well. You can contact him at 804-524-5749 or via email at ledwards@vsu.edu for more information.

Finally, there may be information about your uncle in our files for the department he worked in. We would need a little more information to determine if we have information on him. Unfortunately, because of time and staff constraints, the amount of research we would be able to do on that matter is limited, but we may be able to at least tell you if there is information that would warrant a visit to VSU.
